The Julius & Rose Adler Mason Library

A Wealth of Information and Resources

Welcome to the Julius and Rose Adler Mason Library! Generously endowed by the late Charlotte Mason in honor of her parents, our library has grown to host over 2,500 titles covering a wide array of subjects, including Jewish History, Fiction, Rabbinic literature, Holocaust, American Jewry, Music, Reference Materials, Biographies, Theology, and much more. We also frequently feature many periodicals and magazines which relate to Jewish life around the globe. Our dedicated library committee has recently completed an ambitious digital cataloguing and shelving project designed to make the library more easily accessible for visitors in search of a good book.

Our library is also home to our congregation's Book Club which meets the third Thursday of each month.  Previously discussed books include The Saturday Wife by Naomi Ragen, The Man in the White Sharkskin Suit by Lucette Lagnado, and The Girl from Foreign by Sadia Shepard.  New members are always welcome to join in with a brown bag lunch and lively conversation.

For more information on the upcoming month's title or meeting date and time, do not hesitate to contact the Temple office at (413) 442-5910 or e-mail us at templeoffice@rnetworx.com.

The Temple always welcomes and appreciates donations to our Library Fund in memory of a loved one or in honor of a special individual.  Contributions of funds and books are always acknowledged in our monthly bulletin.

The library, which is also home to the Mervin Wineberg Memorial Chapel and to the Temple's Tree of Life, is located on the first floor of our beautiful Temple.  Drop by, borrow a book and explore one of the Temple's most valuable resources!

Library News/Additions

Thanks to generous donations of both funds and books by members and friends, we have added a large number of volumes to our Library.  Among the most recent are:

  • Lone Wolf, a 2-volume biography by Ze'ev Jacobinsky, donated by Edna Miller in memory of Dan
  • Anne Frank: The Book, the Life, The AfterLife by Francine Prose
  • Among the Righteous by Robert Satloff (This is the little known story of Jews in North Africa during WWII and their rescue by Arab residents; it was the recent subject of a PBS documentary of the same name.)
  • Bread Givers by Anzia Yezerska
  • Jewish Women: Living the Challege by Carola Diament
  • Beginning Anew: A Women's Companion to the High Holy Days edited by Reimer and Kates
  • Speaking for Ourselves edited by Irene Zahava

A donor who wished to remain anonymous left the last 4 books, along with others relating to Jewish spirituality, at the Temple.  While we always appreciate donations, we also appreciate having advance notice so we can be sure the books are properly cataloged.  We do not have room for duplicates in our library, so if we hear from you beforehand, we can check to see if we already have the books you wish to donate.

Thanks to everyone who continue to make donations to our Library Fund!
