MUSIC AT TAA

 2011 Purimspiel

The Cast of our 2011 Purimspiel, "The Purim Channel", written and directed by Dr. Alan Gold

As a progressive reform congregation, we strongly believe in the importance and delight of music, instrumental accompaniment, and singing adding to the importance of the Shabbat, High Holy Day and Festival experiences.  From welcoming the Sabbath with L’Cha Dodi to closing our services with Adon Olam, the gift of music is deeply embedded in the spirit of our liturgy.

Our musical programming is directed by accompanist Dr. Alan Gold, whose 16 years of experience with our congregation have immeasurably added to the joy of celebrating Shabbat as a community.  Alan is also the director and arranger of the Temple’s Adult Volunteer Choir, a talented group of individuals who diligently prepare special arrangements for High Holy Day services and some events throughout the year, led by soloists Arlene Adler and Mark Franklin.  Choir Members

We also feature lively musical performances and participation at our Religious School Shabbats, Simchat Torah, Chanukah, Tu B’shvat, and Purim festivals.  Each year, Alan and our members produce a “Purimspiel”, a musically unique take on the book of Esther.  In addition to our Shabbat and Holiday musical programming, we also feature music at our annual “Club Anshe” jazz festivals, which also shine the spotlight on some of our most talented singers in the congregation.  This past July, we hosted “Denim and Diamonds”, which featured a country hoedown in our “Midwestern” social hall.

Our Temple is also home to the Wolfe Cantorial Concert, held annually in late August in our beautiful sanctuary in honor of our late devoted members Benjamin and Gertrude Wolfe.   The Wolfe Concert has featured some of the finest Cantors across the country, including our most recent guest, Cantor Scott Sokol of Temple Beth Shalom in Framingham, Massachusetts.

For more information on our musical programming, or to find out how to participate, please call the Temple office at (413) 442-5910, or E-mail us at templeoffice@rnetworx.com.

As we begin to think about wearing costumes, shaking groggers and eating hamantaschen, we also need to think about planning our annual PURIMSHPIEL! The first meeting/rehearsal for the March 2nd event will be on Tuesday evening, January 10th, at 7:00 pm in the temple library. Anyone interested in participating in this year’s production should plan on attending. If you are unable to be there and would like to participate or would like more information, please contact me at agoldds@vzw.blackberry.net, or through the temple office.
