Pittsfield Federation of Temple Youth

The Pittsfield Federation of Temple Youth (PFTY), led by Advisor Rachel Alemany, has long been committed to encouraging Jewish students’ (grades 8 through 12) participation in Judaism and Social Action activities.  PFTY, is a member of the Northeast Region of the National Federation for Temple Youth.

This year, the members of PFTY have united with youth group members from Knesset Israel to form “Yachad”, a group which encourages tight-knit bonds between the youth of the Central Berkshire Jewish community, and will engage in several group dinners, projects, and holiday events together this year.

The members of PFTY frequently reach beyond Berkshire County and participate in NFTY regional Conclavettes and dances in order to encourage networking between fellow young Jews.

Each fall during the High Holy Day season, PFTY contributes to the Temple and the local community’s Social Action initiatives by running a food drive.  PFTY also takes part in the Temple’s annual Religious School Shabbat service.  In March of 2009, PFTY was featured in The Berkshire Eagle for their work on “Where Do You Live”, a Shabbat Service dedicated to exploring each individual’s place in their communities.

New members of PFTY are always welcome.  If you are interested in learning more about PFTY or would like to join PFTY, leave a message for Rachel Alemany by calling the Temple Office at (413) 442-5910, or e-mail at templeoffice@rnetworx.com.

PFTY NEWS

Special NFTY-NE event

On April 10th we will be hosting a NFTY-NE event at our Temple! There will be participants from approximately six other youth groups coming for a daylong event.  The theme for this event is “Community.”  Please mark this on your schedule!  As we are hosting, it is crucial that all PFTY members are in attendance.

Our tentative schedule is as follows:

     11:00 Services

     12:30 Program

      1:00 Lunch

1:30 Program (Making Lasagna for two Soup Kitchens)

      2:15 Program

      3:00 Program (off-campus)

      5:00 Havdallah

We will be done by 5:30.

We will be working with Hevreh to put together a board of students who will run the event, led by Caleb and Molly (from Hevreh).  So I am asking our youth to please put aside April 10th and plan to be at Temple for the day, from 10a.m.-5:30p.m.  We will need parents to help with the lunch setup and lasagna prep.  We may also need drivers for an off campus program at 3 p.m.   For more information, please contact Rachel Alemany.
